The Australian Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program starts on 1 July 2025, and here’s what it means for you in terms of rebates, savings and more.
With the launch of the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, there’s never been a better time to invest in a solar battery system. Designed to cut the upfront cost of home energy storage, these new solar battery rebates could save homeowners thousands (potentially up to $18,600, based on $372/kWh rebate), depending on system size and eligibility.
Whether you’re just starting to explore home battery storage or helping customers make informed decisions, it’s important to understand how the rebate works, how the per-kWh calculations apply, and what systems qualify.
Let’s break down the top five things you need to know about the Australian Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, so you can make the most of this cost-saving opportunity.
1.What is the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
Starting 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will offer a new federal rebate of up to $372 per kWh of usable battery capacity through the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. With a $2.3 billion budget and a target of supporting at least 6.2GWh of installed battery capacity, it’s the most significant home battery initiative in the country’s history.
This rebate will apply to eligible residential, small business, and community facility battery installations and can potentially save Australians thousands off their battery installation cost.
2. How Much Can You Save?
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program offers a solar battery rebate of up to $372 per kWh, which translates into major savings:
- A typical 10kWh battery, like GivEnergy’s iconic 9.5 kWh batteries could be eligible for up to $3,534.
- A larger 13.5kWh system, like our best seller, the GivEnergy All In One, could save you over $5,022.
- An exceptional 27.2kWh system like GivEnergy’s Humber Collection Pro could save you even more, up to $10,118.
Psst… What’s more, GivEnergy batteries are made with advanced LiFePO4 chemistry, known for its longevity, fire-resistance and up to 100% Depth of Discharge.
3. What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
To qualify for the solar battery rebate:
- Your newly installed battery must remain turned off until 1 July 2025, or be installed after that date
- The battery must be CEC listed and Virtual Power Plant (VPP)-capable (though joining a VPP is optional)
- Installation must be done by an accredited installer
- The property must already have solar installed
- Batteries must be between 5kWh and 100kWh, with rebates capped at 50kWh
GivEnergy batteries meet all the above criteria and are fully rebate ready.
4. What Can You Do Now?
Plan now, install later and get paid! Even though the battery rebate officially begins on 1 July, here’s how you can get ahead:
- Get your solar installed if you haven’t already, it’s a pre-requirement
- Choose a rebate-ready, VPP-capable battery (like GivEnergy)
- Secure your quote and installation date now to beat the rush
- For early installations, ensure the system isn’t turned on until after 1 July to remain eligible
GivEnergy batteries meet all the above criteria and are fully rebate ready.
The best installers will be booked out by June, don’t wait!
